New Second Best Day of Season…......

Both the Total Catch for the Season to the end of July and the average Catch per Rod Day are the highest since 2003.

Conditions.
Dry overnight here. Occasional showers today. The forecast is broken from tomorrow through to Tuesday with some heavier rain Sunday.

The upper river at Millstreet is falling slowly.

Killavullen is also falling slowly but steadily, & is at 1.15m this morning. Clarity is about 4-5 feet.

At Ballyduff, the river is falling steadily & is at 0.28m at 09.00. Clarity is about 4  feet.

 Water temperature at Ballyduff: 12.4ºC / 54.3ºF.

Catches.

The Second Best Day of the Season total of 10 fish recorded on Tuesday only lasted 2 days as there were 11 fish to 6lb. landed yesterday for just 6 rod days. 10 came from the upper river.
124 fish have been caught so far for July for just 216 rod days – a superb average of 0.6 fish/rod day. 244 for the season to date.

Prospects.
The river is in excellent fly order. Fishing should be good sport in the coming days with the latest small fresh on the river. There are reports of some double figure fish caught on the lower river.
Hight tides will be peaking at 4.0m this coming weekend from Saturday to Monday which should help to bring fish into the main river.

Already Six fish reported by 14.00 today.....

Conditions.
Dry overnight here. Showers yesterday & last night in the upper catchment.  The forecast is broken from tomorrow through to Tuesday with some heavier rain Sunday.
 

The upper river at Millstreet had been falling slowly all day yesterday, but rose 3cm peaking at midnight last night. It is now dropping once again.

Killavullen was falling slowly but steadily, but is up 1cm since 06.00 today. Clarity is about 4 feet.

At Ballyduff, the river is falling steadily & is at 0.29m at 14.00. Clarity is about 3½  feet.

 Water temperature at Ballyduff: 12.4ºC / 54.3ºF.

Catches.

After the great day on Tuesday which was the Second Best Day of the Season with ten grilse caught we then recorded the only blank day of July. There were only 4 rod days yesterday & conditions were very difficult with a biting North wind.
Today with just 6 rods out, we already have 6 fish reported by 14.00 – 5 from the upper river. One beat already reports 3 on the fly without having seen a single fish show!
119 fish caught so far for July for just 211 rod days – a superb average of 0.6 fish/rod day. 239 for the season to date.

Prospects.
The river is in excellent fly order. Fishing should be good sport in the coming days with the latest small fresh on the river. There are reports of some double figure fish caught on the lower river.

Second Best Day of the Season as the river fines off nicely.....

Conditions.
Showers during the day & 2mm rain fell here.
The forecast for the week is dry.

The upper river at Millstreet has been falling slowly all day.

Killavullen is up & down & is at 1.24m at 20.00. Clarity is about 3 feet.

At Ballyduff, the river peaked at 0.36m at midday & is just starting to drop. Clarity is about 3 feet.

 Water temperature at Ballyduff: 12.4ºC / 54.3ºF.

Catches.


It was the Second Best Day of the Season as the river fined off nicely during the day. Ten grilse were caught today including one sea-liced one on the lower river  & eight very fresh ones on the upper river. All but two fell to fly. Johnnie Murphy & Fergus Glynn had a great day landing four – one from Kilmurry & three from Ballyhooly.
113 fish caught so far for July for just 201 rod days – a superb average of 0.6 fish/rod day. 233 for the season to date.

Prospects.
The river is in excellent fly order. Should be good sport in the coming days with the latest small fresh on the river. There are reports of some double figure fish caught on the lower river.

Upper river peaked this morning (Monday) up 20cm .....

Conditions.
It was dry for the last 24 hours here. There was obviously rain in the upper catchment. The forecast for the coming week is dry.
 

The upper river at Millstreet was rising very slowly (up 8cm) until 05.30 this morning (Monday) & then rose quickly peaking at 08.00 up 20cm in total. By midnight it has fallen back down 10cm.

Killavullen it is up 13cm – peaking just before midnight at 1.25m.

At Ballyduff, the river rose 9cm peaking at 0.35m at 20.00.


The clarity is excellent throughout the upper & lower river.

Water temperature at Ballyduff: 12.3ºC / 54.1ºF.

Catches.

Three very fresh grilse were caught today on the lower river including this  First Ever Salmon for John Last (UK) on the fly.

103 fish caught so far for July for 192 rod days. 223 for the season to date.
Prospects.
Should be good in the coming days with a small fresh on the river.
I heard of a couple of larger fish caught on other beats, including one fish of ~15lb.

Upper river rising rapidly ..... ?? !


Conditions.
Dry overnight. The forecast for the coming week is dry.
 
The upper river at Millstreet was rising very slowly (up 8cm) until 05.30 this morning & has since shot up 10cm in an hour! This is strange as there doesn't appear to have been rain in that area overnight?

Killavullen crept up slowly & has plateaued at.20m this morning.


At Ballyduff, the river is still rising slowly & is at 0.32m this morning.
The clarity is excellent throughout the upper & lower river.
Water temperature at Ballyduff: 12.3ºC / 54.1ºF.

Catches.

Four grilse caught all on fly today on the lower river including a sea-liced 5 pounder. 100 fish caught so far for July for 187 rod days.
This is only the fourth time in th last 10 years that the 100 fish mark for July has been achieved.  220 for the season to date.

Prospects.
Should be good in the coming days with a small fresh on the river.

One Hundred fish for the Month ……….. !








Conditions.
It was a damp day today with 3mm rain here. The forecast for the coming week is dry.
 
The upper river at Millstreet is now up 5cm at 21.00 & rising very slowly.

Killavullen has also crept up 5cm slowly during the day to 1.18m. Clarity at least 4 feet.


At Ballyduff, the river is also up another 2cm, peaking at 0.30m this evening. Clarity is at least 4 feet.
Water temperature at Ballyduff: 12.3ºC / 54.1ºF.

Catches.

Four grilse caught all on fly today on the lower river including
a sea-liced 5 pounder. 100 fish caught so far for July for 187 rod days.
This is only the fourth time in th last 10 years that the 100 fish mark for July has been achieved.  220 for the season to date.

Prospects.
Should be good in the coming days with a small fresh on the river.

Finally, not much rain fell in the catchment last night………..




             On Thursday, July 23rd. Gavin Wishart (N. Ireland) released
            a superb fresh fish of 12lb. at the Lug Pool on Lower Kilmurry.

Conditions.
The Met Eireann 5 Day forecast had plenty of rain coming in last night, but not much seemed to have fallen in the catchment. I had 10mm here. The forecast for the coming week is dry.
 
The upper river at Millstreet is up just 3cm at midday & looks to be peaking.

Killavullen is up just 2cm to 1.15 by midday & looks to have peaked too. Clarity at least 4 feet.


At Ballyduff, the river is also up just 2cm, peaking at 0.28m at midday. Clarity is at least 4 feet.
Water temperature at Ballyduff: 12.3ºC / 54.1ºF.

Catches.

Two very fresh grilse caught on Friday for just 5 rod days.
Four caught yesterday for just 8 rod days – all from the upper river.
We haven’t had a blank day yet in July!
96 caught so far for July for 176 rod days. 216 for the season to date.
Very fresh grilse continue to run right through to Mallow, but no so many fish showing in the last couple of days.

Prospects.
Should be good in the coming days with a small fresh on the river.

Conditions.
The Met Eireann 5 Day forecast has rain coming in early tomorrow morning.
 
The upper river at Millstreet is dropping slowly but steadily.

Killavullen is dropping slowly but steadily. It is down to 1.13m this evening at 23.00. Clarity at least 4 feet.

At Ballyduff, the river is also steadily dropping & is at 0.26m at 23.00. Clarity is at least 4 feet.
Water temperature at Ballyduff: 12.6ºC / 54.7ºF.

Catches.
Two very fresh grilse caught on Friday for just 5 rod days.
Four caught today for just 8 rod days – all from the upper river.
We haven’t had a blank day yet in July!
96 caught so far for July for 176 rod days. 216 for the season to date.
Very fresh grilse continue to run right through to Mallow, but no so many fish showing in the last couple of days.

Prospects.
Should be superb in the coming days especially if we get plenty of rain on Sunday.
