The river is fining off to cracking fly order……..

Conditions.

It’s a bright sunny day here today. There is no more rain forecast for the next 8 days with high pressure building again from mid-week on. Air temperature is 10ºC at 08.30 this morning.

The Millstreet gauge has fallen back to almost it’s pre-flood level.

The Killavullen gauge is falling steadily & is at 1.37m at 09.00 this morning.
Clarity is about 3½ feet.

The lower river at Ballyduff is falling steadily & is at 0.48m at 09.00.
Clarity about 4-5 feet.

Water temperature at    Ballyduff: 9.2ºC / 48.6ºF @ 18.00 today.
Water temperature at Killavullen:   10.1 ºC / 50.2ºF @ 10.00 & steady.

Prospects.

Conditions are perfect for fly on both the lower & upper river today, & should remain so for the next week at least.

Catches.

The first fish since the three we caught over last weekend was caught yesterday. It’s our second so far on the fly & was caught by Gavin O'Shea (Cork) with his variant of a Posh Tosh on Woodstream on the upper river.

Conditions.

It was a dry mixed sunny/overcast day here today. There is no more rain forecast for the next 8 days with high pressure building again from mid-week on. Air temperature was 14ºC at 17.00 this evening.

The Millstreet gauge has fallen 35cm since peaking at 16.00 yesterday afternoon.  Clarity at Mallow early this morning was about 2 feet, but improved as the day went on.

The Killavullen gauge rose 25cm – peaking at 1.61m at 01.00 this morning. It is already back to 1.42 by 18.00 today.

The lower river at Ballyduff peaked at 0.63m at 09.00. It is back down to 0.54m at 18.00. Clarity about 4+ feet.

Water temperature at    Ballyduff: 9.2ºC / 48.6ºF @ 18.00 today.

Water temperature at Killavullen:  9.1 – 10.1 ºC / 48.4 – 50.2ºF @ 18.00.

Prospects.

Conditions were challenging over the last week due to very bright sunshine & clear water. The 45cm flood on the upper river yesterday together with quite cloudy weather has improved the situation.

Catches.

The first fish since the three we caught over last weekend was caught today. It’s our second so far on the fly & was caught by Gavin O'Shea (Cork) with his variant of a Posh Tosh on Woodstream on the upper river.

A 45cm flood on the upper river this afternoon should liven up the fish!

The river below the Lodge at 17.00 today. Gauge height 0.47m

Conditions.

It was a dry bright sunny day here today but another band of rain passed through the catchment late last night. I only had 1.5mm rain on my gauge this morning, but there must have been more in the upper catchment. There is no more rain forecast for the next 8 days with high pressure building again from mid-week on

The Millstreet gauge has risen 45cm in the last 48 hours peaking at 16.00 this afternoon.

The Killavullen gauge up 8cm over the last 48 hours & is at 1.42m at 19.45 this evening & rising.

The lower river at Ballyduff has risen 3 cm since late Friday night peaking at mid-day today at 0.47m & is currently steady at 0.46m at 20.00. It should rise somewhat overnight, but not by much & the lower river should be in good fly order tomorrow.

Water temperature at Killavullen:  11.5 – 10.3ºC / 52.7 – 50.5ºF.
Water temperature at Millstreet:  9.5 – 10.0 ºC / 49.1 – 50.0ºF @ 20.00.


Prospects.

Conditions have been challenging over the last week due to very bright sunshine & clear water. There should be some improvement with the small flood coming down from the upper river.
 
Catches.
There have been no more fish reported in the last few days since the three we caught over last weekend.

A little rain may liven up the fish………….

Conditions.
It’s a dry bright sunny day here at 07.00 this morning but frosty. A band of rain passed through the catchment late last night & I had 2.5mm rain on my gauge this morning. again today. There is a bit more rain forecast for tomorrow & then high pressure will build again for the coming week.

The whole river has been dropping very slowly through the last week with very clear water.

The Millstreet gauge has risen 6cm by 06.00 this morning & has peaked.
 
The Killavullen gauge is holding at 1.33m since early yesterday morning.

The lower river at Ballyduff is dropping steadily but very slowly.
It is down to 0.44m at 08.00 this morning.


Water temperature at    Ballyduff: 9.0ºC / 48.2ºF @ 07.00 today.
Water temperature at Killavullen:  11.5 – 10.3ºC / 52.7 – 50.5ºF.

Prospects.
Conditions have been challenging over the last week due to very bright sunshine & clear water. There may be some improvement with the broken forecast for tomorrow.

Catches.
There have been no more fish reported in the last few days since the three we caught over last weekend.

Clarity & height into excellent order & 14th. springer caught today at 10.00.

Conditions.

It’s a dry bright sunny day today. The forecast still remains for dry weather right through to the end of the week with warm days but cool nights due to no cloud cover.

The whole river is dropping slowly but steadily and clarity throughout is good 4 feet this morning.

The Killavullen gauge is working again & it is at 1.42m at 10.00 – perfect fly height for the upper river.

The lower river at Ballyduff is dropping steadily but very slowly. It is down to 0.54m at 09.30 this morning. Perfect fly height here too. Clarity 4 feet.

Water temperature at    Ballyduff: 9.0ºC / 48.2ºF @ 10.00 today.
Water temperature at Killavullen:  10.8 – 9.3ºC / 51.4 – 46.6F @ 10.00.

Tides will still be peaking at 3.8m at Youghal today.

Prospects.

Superb right through the coming week with no rain due and the river fining down. The upper & lower river were both well fly fishable today.
 


Catches.
Two fish in the last 3 days & already another one reported by 10.00 this morning.
We now have 3 for April & 14 for the season so far.
