Current Situation & Prospects: Thursday, May 15

Weather:

A very calm misty morning at 06.30. Looks as if mist will burn off quickly to give a
sunny day. High pressure building & forecast is now dry for the rest of the week
& continuing up to the weekend. Some rain for Sunday & again for Tuesday/Wednesday.

   River Height:

The graph below shows the height of the river at Millstreet today:

Millstreet:  0.68m @05.00 this morning. Falling steadily

Killavullen:  1.41m @ 05.00. Falling steadily.

Ballyduff:   0.53m @ 05.00 today. Holding steady in the last few hours.

Colour/Clarity:

About 2½ feet @ Ballyduff today.
About 3 feet this morning on the upper river.

Temperatures:

Water @    Ballyduff:    10.5ºC    50.9ºF.
 Water @ Killavullen:    10.9 -  11.4ºC.
     Air @    Ballyduff:    10ºC  @ 07.30  today.

Run of Fish:

Excellent runs of fish going through our upper beats yesterday – some grilse but plenty of fish up to 15-18lb.

Catches:

Best March since 2006 with nine fish to 12lb. caught.
April 14:  Best Day of Season so far.
4 fish to 14lb. caught - 3 on fly.
Two released on fly yesterday (14th.) on the upper river & several lost.

Methods:

Now coming back into excellent fly order.  Good for all methods with medium-high summer level.

Prospects:

Superb for the coming days as the river fines off. The last fresh did get the large May fish running right through to the upper beats.
A full moon & high tides into the coming weekend (3.8m for today, Friday & Saturday) will also help to bring fish into the main river.
