First Fish for August - finally - and fish are starting to run.....................

Some Fish Moving.
The latest small fresh on the river peaked yesterday morning at 07.00.
It only rose 9cm but it was enough to excite some of the huge numbers of fish waiting in the tidal reaches to move up.
High tide yesterday was at 13.00, and for an hour or so there was a massive movement of fish off the head of the tide. Most were seen just above the tidal limit, but there were a few fish seen starting to move on the lower river from Ballinaroone to Kilmurry.

The First Fish for August.
Frenchman Laurent Ailloud arrived at the Lodge yesterday for a 3 week work programme at the Lodge for the second August running. Having spent the day cleaning the banks at Ballinaroone, he returned in the late evening & landed & released a 3lb. grilse on a #14 Bann Special on his very first outing.

Prospects
With more broken weather going into the weekend we may well see
some more rain and another fresh on the river.

There is already some rain falling tonight.
The fish's patience seems to have finally broken with the sniff of fresh water,
& some are running in spite of the low level.
If we get a decent flood - all hell will break loose..........

This was the river below the Lodge at 18.35 this evening Thursday 7th.

at Millstreet the river is continuing to fine off steadily - having risen 10cm.

.At Ballyduff it rose 9cm peaking at 07.00 yesterday 6th.

the 19mm of rain tha fell in Ballyduff did little to raise the levels.
None fell where it counts in the upper catchment.

There is no problem for availability in the coming weeks..
