The heavy rain misses the catchment again...............................................

Current Situation & Prospects: Sunday, August 10 @ 11.00

Weather:

The band of very heavy rain passed eastwards & missed the upper catchment.
It began to move north & some fell in the lower catchment where I recorded 28mm on my gauge at the Lodge yesterday evening.
It barely reached the catchment of the Araglen - the tributary that comes into the river between Upper Kilmurry & Fermoy.
The forecast is for some broken weather at the beginning of the week
& another band of rain due next weekend.
   River Height:

 Millstreet:  Up 2cm to 0.45m @ 17.15 yesterday & back down 1cm.

Killavullen:  No change - steady at 1.06m

  Ballyduff:   Up 1cm to 0.52m @ 22.00 & rising slowly.

Ballyduff gauge for the last 24hrs at 10.30 today -
- peaked up 8cm to 0.22m @ 10.15.

Colour/Clarity:

Excellent on the upper river. Getting worse at only about a foot at midday on the lower river as there is colour coming in from the Araglen.

Temperatures:

Water @    Ballyduff:    13.5ºC    56.3ºF.  Up 0.3
ºC since yesterday
   Water @ Killavullen:     15.0 -  16.9C.
     Air @    Ballyduff:      16ºC  @ 11.30  today.

Run of Fish:

Sporadic runs of sea-liced grilse & some larger salmon
with fish being seen moving today on the lower river.

Catches:

One a day for the last 3 days with extremely low rod effort.
Reports of some fish taken on other beats primarily on prawn.

Methods:

Barely fly-fishable on the lower beats today but spin/bait fishable – and should be in fly order on the lower river too tomorrow..

Prospects:
The slight rise on the lower river - coupled with the high (4.1m) tides from tomorrow should encourage some fish to move & stir up the resident fish.
