Things are livening up………………………………

Conditions.
It was a sunny day today with air temperatures up to 14ºC. The forecast is now for broken weather right through the weekend from tomorrow until Tuesday with a likelihood of some heavier rain on Saturday & Sunday. Temperatures will also be on the increase from today. From Wednesday next week high pressure is forecast to build over Ireland.

The upper river at Millstreet peaked at 10.00 yesterday morning up 15cm & peaked again at midnight last night up another 5cm. It then had another small peak at 1.00 today.

The upper river at Killavullen is holding more or less steady around the 1.30m mark since 22.00 last night. Excellent clarity.
The lower river at Ballyduff Has just peaked up 7cm to 0.38m at 07.00. It then dropped slightly & has risen again at nightfall this evening. Clarity is about 5-6 feet.

Water temperature at    Ballyduff: 9.3ºC / 49.0ºF @ 20.00 today.
Water temperature at Killavullen:  9.1 – 10.6 ºC / 48.4 – 51.1ºF.

Prospects.
Conditions remain perfect for fly on both the lower & upper river.
There was a significant increase in activity today. Kieran Conlon met 2 fish on fly on the upper river at Killavullen but neither took properly. One crushed the hook on his #11 fly. Kevin Collins (Cork) had a savage take on the Island Stream on Lower Kilmurry (but didn’t connect) & saw a couple more fish running. Dave Walsh met a fish on fly on Bbridgetown & just after had a fish of ~15lb. follow the spinner right into the bank twice! It certainly looks as if the rise has livened up the fish a bit on the upper river. All the fish met on fly were on intermediate tips and comparatively small flies.

Small flood livens the fish up on the upper river...........

Still challenging fishing for now, but hopefully between the recent rise & the rain due on the weekend, there will be enough water in the river to start the run of the Blackwater’s May fish.
High tides are 3.4m today, but increase to 3.8m by next Monday, which might also help to push fish into the system.
