The upper river is up 10cm after some overnight rain……

Report for 08.00 today April 29

The upper river is up 10cm after some overnight rain……

Conditions.
It’s another bright slightly frosty morning today. The rain band seems to have barely skirted the catchment giving a 10cm rise at Millstreet which is still rising . I had 2mm rain on my gauge here at the Lodge.
The weather forecast is now for some (heavy?) rain on Saturday & some Sunday.

The upper river at Millstreet was up 10cm at 07.30.

The upper river at Killavullen was up 2cm at 07.30.

The lower river at Ballyduff is up just 1cm to 0.32m at 07.00. Clarity is about 5-6 feet.

Water temperature at    Ballyduff: 9.1ºC / 48.6ºF @ 07.00 today.
Water temperature at Killavullen:   10.2 – 9.0ºC / 50.4 – 48.2ºF.

Prospects.
Conditions are still perfect for fly on both the lower & upper river.
Challenging fishing for now, but hopefully there will be enough rain to give a reasonable rise in the river to start the run of the Blackwater’s May fish.
High tides are only 3.2m today, but increase to 3.8m by next Monday, which might also help to push fish into the system.
