Best Day of the Season by far & Best Fish of the Season

Conditions.
There was heavy rain & strong winds across the catchment today.
I recorded 10mm rain here & there was 18mm in Mallow.
The  forecast is for mainly dry weathe for the rest of the week. Temperatures are due to get warmer from mid-week.

The upper river at Millstreet is rising rapidly at 22.00 – up 85cm since 11.00 today.

The upper river at Killavullen is starting to rise at 22.00 – it is up to 1.40m at 22.00 today.

The lower river at Ballyduff is holding at 0.46m at 22.00 this evening
with good clarity.

Water temperature at Ballyduff: 10.3ºC / 51.0ºF & steady.

Prospects.
The river will be rising quickly overnight & is unlikely to be fishable tomorrow. Once it does start to fine off the fishing should be superb based on today’s results

Catches.

Today was a superb day. It was the Best Day of the Season by far with ten fish caught, including the Best Fish of the Season released by guide Conor Arnold at 12½lb.
Conditions were virtually impossible for fly due to gale force winds. One was caught on fly – a 9 pounder for Vaidas Tiskus from Lower Kilmurry. His first ever Blackwater salmon after 3 years of trying!
All the other fish fell to spinner.
Dave Sheehan (Cappoquin) had a 10lb. on spinner from Ballinaroone & moved to Lower Kilmurry where he caught a 9lb.  Colm Dooly (Mallow) had a 4lb. grilse on Killavullen followed by an 8½lb. on Ballygarrett. Conor Arnold released two on Kilcanwy at 7 & 12½lb. Dave Walsh (Mallow) landed two on Carrig at 4 & 7lb. & Mick Kennedy (Newmarket) went out in the evening & was rewarded with a 4lb grilse on Woodstream.

Colm Dooly (Mallow) had a 4lb. grilse on Killavullen
followed by an 8½lb. on Ballygarrett.
