Water level peaks for second time in less than 48 hours.……………

Great prospects for sport for the last fortnight of the season.
Conditions.

Plenty of rain in the catchment for the last 24 hours & this will continue until late evening. It should then be dry from tomorrow to the end of the week albeit unsettled.
 
The upper river at Millstreet has risen 1.90m since 14.00 yesterday & looks to be about to peak at 14.30 today.

The Killavullen gauge started to rise again at 16.30 yesterday & is up 1.60m to 3.35m at 14.30 today.

The Funcheon & Araglen tributaries were both very high & dirty at 09.00 this morning.

The Ballyduff gauge started to rise at nightfall last night & is 1.20m to 1.90m by 14.30 today & still rising.

Water temperature at Ballyduff: 13.1ºC / 55.5ºF & steady.

Catches.

There are no rods out on the river at all today. There were two grilse caught yesterday on the very top beat just below Mallow as the level dropped until early afternoon on the upper river.
Catch for September so far is 27 & 395 for the season to date.

Prospects.

The river may barely be spinnable tomorrow in high water spots.
This flood should bring in the run of larger autumn fish so the prospects of sport in the coming week should be excellent. It combines with tides peaking at 3.8m at Youghal from today until Wednesday this week.

Highest river level since March 13.……………

Whole trees were coming down the river. 

This went past the Lodge this afternoon!

Conditions.

Following yesterday’s heavy rain there was a big rise in the river.
There is a bit more rain forecast for Monday & Wednesday.

The upper river at Millstreet rose 3.15m from midday yesterday peaking at 02.00 this morning.  It was back down 2.65m by 21.00 this evening.

Killavullen started to rise at 17.00 yesterday & peaked at 3.60m at 15.00 today – up 2.45m. It has fallen to 2.18m by 21.15 this evening.

Fermoy started to rise at 20.00 yesterday & peaked at 2.02m at 18.00 today – up 1.88m. It has fallen to 1.71m by 21.15 this evening.

The Ballyduff gauge is up 1.91m by 21.15 to 2.13m & is just peaking now.

Water temperature at Ballyduff: 13.3ºC / 55.9ºF.

Catches.

No fish were caught today because the river was in a high dirty flood.
Catch for September so far is 25 & 393 for the season to date.

Prospects.

The river will be spinnable tomorrow in high water spots.
This flood should bring in the run of larger autumn fish so the prospects of sport in the coming week should be excellent.

Very heavy rain today.……………

Conditions.

There was very heavy rain throughout the catchment today.

The upper river at Millstreet has risen 2.10m by 23.00 since midday & is still rising.

Killavullen has risen 80cm by 22.00 since 15.00 & is also rising fast

The Ballyduff gauge is up just 10cm by 22.00 & also rising fast.


Water temperature at Ballyduff: 12.6ºC / 54.6ºF.

Catches.

There was just one fish caught today but a good number of fish
starting to stir, show & run including a few fresh ones.
Catch for September so far is 24 & 392 for the season to date.

Prospects.

The river will be unfishable tomorrow. Hopefully it will be spinnable for Sunday.
This flood should bring in the run of larger autumn fish so the prospects of sport in the coming week should be excellent.

Rain is on the way.……………

Conditions.

The dry spell has continued but will break from Friday.  It looks as if we will be in for a very wet period from Friday until late next week.

The upper river at Killavullen is holding steady at 1.13m.

The Ballyduff gauge is falling slowly & was at 0.23m this morning.

Excellent clarity throughout up & downriver.

Water temperature at Ballyduff: 12.6ºC / 54.6ºF.

Catches.

There were three fish caught today -  two on the upper river.
Catch for September so far is 24 & 392 for the season to date.

Prospects.

Fishing is still challenging. The change in the weather forecast for the end of the week should ensure a rise in the river.

Second Best Fish of 2015 caught today. Five fish to 13lb. landed.……………

Conditions.

Dry again for the last 24 hours. The high pressure remains dominant off the west coast up to next Tuesday. Rain is due to move in from next Wednesday. Veering to SW winds from the weekend with warmer temperatures.

The upper river at Millstreet is still falling steadily.

Killavullen is also fallng steadily & was at 1.18m by nightfall.

The Ballyduff gauge is falling slowly & was at 0.28m by nightfall.

Excellent clarity throughout up & downriver.

Water temperature at Ballyduff: 12.6ºC / 54.6ºF.

Catches.

There were five fish to 13lb. caught today on the upper river & one on fly on the lower river.

Prospects.

Fishing remains somewhat challenging. The weather forecast is still dry for this week with cool temperatures up until Sunday when it will get warmer.

Fifth Best Total for August since 2004 as five are caught on the last day.

Conditions.

Intermittent showers in the last 24 hours. The forecast is still for high pressure to build off the west coast throughout next week giving stable calm conditions & no rain for the week.

The upper river at Millstreet is holding steady. This evening.

Killavullen is fallng steadily & was at 1.20m by nightfall.
The Ballyduff gauge is falling slowly & was at 0.31m by nightfall.

Excellent clarity throughout up & downriver.

Water temperature at Ballyduff: 12.7ºC / 54.8ºF.

Catches.

There were few fish moving today on most of the river though 40-50 were seen on one upper beat where 3 were caught. Total for the day was five.
We have caught 123 for August & 368 for the season to date.
Fifth Best Total for August since 2004.
The fish/rod day for August is 0.4 which is nevertheless rather good.
The average height of the river for August was 0.38m.

Prospects.

Fishing remains rather challenging. The weather forecast is still for dry & stable conditions for the coming week making for very good & very pleasant fishing conditions.
