First Grilse of the season is caught as the river comes into cracking order!

Dave McDowell (N. Ireland) caught this sea-liced 5 pounder on fly
from our very top beat just below Mallow.

Conditions.
A dry bright morning here with no rain yesterday or overnight.
The forecast is for dry weather from now on into the middle of next week with high pressure building over Ireland this coming weekend. Winds have slackened considerably & temperatures have risen..

The upper river at Millstreet is falling more slowly but steadily.

The upper river at Killavullen is now falling more slowly & it is down to 1.47m at 20.30 this evening. Clarity on the upper river is now a good 3 feet.

The lower river at Ballyduff is falling steadily & it’s down to 0.56m at 20.00 this evening. Clarity this evening is 1½ - 2 feet with a nice peat stain.

Water temperature at Ballyduff: 10.0ºC / 50.4ºF & steady.

Prospects.
The river is fining off quickly. The river is at fly-fishable height & clarity throughout. Conditions for the weekend & into next week will be absolutely ideal.

Catches.

Just four rods out & one fish caught - & fish were being seen around Castletownroche on the middle river. Hopefully this will be the first of many flying through to the upper beats over the weekend.
