Hotting up - Two landed & 4 lost already today by just 2 rods!

StopPress !

By 14.00, two anglers were giving me telephone reports:

On our topmost beat 28 miles upstream of the Lodge, one angler reports 2 fish landed (one on fly) & 2 lost.

One the lower river at Kilmurry, one angler reports two very fresh fish lost on spinner ~8 & 5lb.

Report from 09.00 this morning
The river is falling steadily & starting to fine off ……

River picture was at 07.30 with Ballyduff gauge at 0.82m.

Conditions.
It’s an overcast morning at 06.30. No rain overnight. The forecast is for rather broken weather from Sunday to Tuesday but with no significant rain. heavier rain tomorrow morning and then mainly dry thereafter.

The upper river at Millstreet peaked at 15.00 yesterday – up just 19cm, & is now falling steadily.

The upper river at Killavullen peaked at 19.30 at 1.74m – also up 20cm. & is down to 1.63m at 07.00 today. Clarity stayed at  ~ 3 feet yesterday evening.

The lower river at Ballyduff peaked at 0.80m at 03.00 this morning & is now falling. 0.77m at 06.45. Clarity is ~2½ -3 feet today 14th.

Water temperature at Ballyduff: 9.9ºC / 50.2ºF @ 07.00 today 16th.

Catches.
A number of fish were met yesterday & the day before especially on the upper river, where good numbers of fish were moving yesterday around Castletownroche. Fish appear to be taking short due to the unsettled conditions, but this should now improve. I know of a couple of fish caught on private water around Mallow & a 13lb May fish at Lismore – all on Wednesday.

Prospects.
The upper river will be in good fly order today. The lower river is in good spinning order but not quite fly-fishable yet due to the height.
If the river continues to settle the prospects of sport are excellent for the coming weekend.
