Nice flood & the water is clearing quite fast.
The river at 17.20 with the gauge at 0.95m.
Conditions.
The band of rain came through the catchment from the south last night.
The forecast is for continuing rather broken weather.
Air temperature was +10ºC at 20.30.
The upper river at Millstreet peaked at 17.00 & clarity was poor.
The upper river at Killavullen has just peaked at 1.88m at 23.00.
The lower river at Ballyduff looks to be peaking at 1.02m at 23.00.
I looked at the bridge at 20.30 & was surprised to see clarity about 2 feet, especially as I had crossed the Funcheon at 17.00 which was very high & very coloured & also the Araglen which was quite high & quite coloured.
Water temperature at Ballyduff: 9.7ºC / 49.8ºF @ 19.00 today.
Prospects.
The river will be too high for fly tomorrow except in a very few spots. I think the clarity will improve quite quickly. This flood bodes extremely well for the prospects of sport in the coming days, with good water levels & tides peaking at 3.8m at Youghal until Thursday which should encourage even more fresh fish to move in.
The river could be coming into fly order for Thursday, & will be in excellent spinning order throughout tomorrow if it fines off a bit more.
