The river is falling throughout & the lower river is fishable today………

Superb Prospects for the coming days!

Conditions.

River picture was at 07.15 with Ballyduff gauge on 0.90m.

No rain overnight. The forecast is dry weather from now on into the middle of next week with high pressure building over Ireland this coming weekend. Winds will slacken considerably from today on.

The upper river at Millstreet is falling steadily.

The upper river at Killavullen is falling rapidly & is down to 1.71m at 09.30 this morning. Clarity at Mallow this morning is 1 foot.

The lower river at Ballyduff peaked at 03.00 this morning at 1.01. By 09.45 it’s down to 0.85m. Clarity this morning was 1½-2 feet. It’s that sediment colour that will drop out quickly.

Water temperature at Ballyduff: 10.1ºC / 50.6ºF & steady.

Prospects.
The river should fine off quickly after this latest flood. The lower river is in spinnable order today. It will be spinnable throughout from tomorrow & may well be flyfishable too if it drops quickly enough.
With reports from the river Lee in Cork of a good run of both salmon & grilse yesterday I would expect that the prospects of sport in the coming days should be excellent.
There have been high (3.9m) tides for the last couple of days including today which should encourage fish to run in.

Catches.

Only one rod per day for the last couple of days fishing in difficult conditions with strong winds & some heavy isolated showers.
We had an 8-10lb bar of silver lost at the net yesterday on the lower river. I heard of a 7lb fish was caught the day before on a private beat too.
