Plenty of rain is bringing the river up this evening!

Conditions.

An extensive band of quite heavy rain came right across the catchment today.

The leading edge hit the western edge of the catchment around mid-day.

By 18.15, the trailing edge of the band was approaching the Kerry coast & by 22.30 it had cleared the catchment.

Rather broken weather will follow into the weekend, then from Sunday high pressure builds off the south coast of Ireland and it looks to be fine dry all through next week.
I have 18mm rain on my gauge here at the Lodge by 22.00 & there was a similar amount in Mallow. The rain has just about passed through at 22.00.

The upper river at Millstreet has risen over 20cm by 22.00 & is rising fast. It will be interesting to see what the picture is in the morning.

The level of the middle river at Killavullen (37km upstream of the Lodge) is up just 3cm at 22.15.
The lower river at Ballyduff is also up just 3cm at 22.00.

Water temperature at    Ballyduff: 8.5ºC / 47.4ºF @ 22.15 today.

Water temperature at Killavullen:  7.1ºC / 44.8ºF @ 22.15.

Prospects.
All will depend on how much the latest rain will affect the river.
Tomorrow morning’s report will tell us a lot more.
There is also a fair bit more rain forecast for early Saturday morning.
