The water is higher today as is the optimism for the coming days …………………………
Conditions.
Continuing cold & showery (some heavy) for today. Another cold night tonight. No rain forecast from tomorrow right through to the middle of next week, with high pressure building over Ireland & much milder temperatures – up to 12 ºC for Saturday!
This was the upper river at 08.00am this morning.
The 20cm rise peaked at 24.00 last night and is falling away steadily.
Clarity is better on the upper river than the lower.
This was the lower river at 08.00 this morning – gauge at 1.23m.
It is just peaking at 12.00 at 1.25m.
Clarity has improved from 1 - 1½ feet at 08.00 to 1½ - 2 feet at 12.00.
Water temperature at Ballyduff: 7.9ºC / 46.2ºF @ 09.00.
Water temperature at Killavullen: 4.4ºC / 39.9ºF @ 09.00.
Prospects.
Looking excellent right through to the middle of next week.
There are reports of fresh fish seen and met right up as far as 15 miles upstream of Mallow, so it looks as if there is a good head of spring fish
in the system.
The river is too high for fly today (Tuesday).
It is in reasonable spinning order with clarity about 1½ -2 feet throughout,
but fining down from above. Spinnable this afternoon in the high water spots.
There may be a bit more water coming into the upper river due to snow melt in the next 24 hours. It will depend on the latest rise coming down and any more rain as to when it will be in fly order later in the week.
